Hands-on osteopathic treatment for persistent neck pain at Mount Gravatt clinic

Meet your Brisbane Osteopath with a Focus on Chronic Pain

If you’re here, you’ve probably been living with pain for longer than you hoped.

I understand. Over the past 25+ years, I’ve developed a deep focus on persistent pain conditions because I’ve seen how challenging it is to live with ongoing pain – and I genuinely want to help.

Through continual learning in pain science combined with hands-on Osteopathic assessment and treatment, I see you as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms. Your body has an innate capacity for healing and change – sometimes it just needs the right support, time, and understanding to find its way there.

I can help you understand what is happening in your body and work with you to discover a path forward.

About Barbara

(or Barb to my patients)

Hi, I'm Barbara, a university-trained, government-registered osteopath who graduated from RMIT in 2000. Over my 25+ years of practice in Brisbane, I've witnessed a complete transformation in how we understand pain. The knowledge and tools available now are light years ahead of where we started, which means I can offer you far more comprehensive support than ever before.

I'm particularly interested in taking an integrated approach to supporting people with persistent pain. This means I don't work in isolation, I collaborate with psychologists, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, and other health professionals to create a team around you. Everyone brings their own expertise, and together we can address the complexity of chronic pain from multiple angles.

My treatment combines hands-on manual therapy with evidence-based education, movement strategies, and practical tools you can use at home. I'm also a qualified yoga and meditation teacher, which gives me additional perspectives on breath work, mindful movement, and nervous system regulation, all of which can be really helpful for people living with persistent pain.

When I'm not in the clinic, you'll probably find me mountain biking, trail running, or hiking (I've tackled the Larapinta Trail). I genuinely believe in staying active and finding movement that brings joy, not just exercise that feels like punishment, and that philosophy carries through to how I work with patients.

My Approach

Seeing You as a Whole Person

In the traditions of the Osteopathic approach to health care, I am what you call a "big picture" person. I don't just zoom in on your painful spot, I zoom out to see how your whole body adapts to your life. Whether you're dealing with neck pain, back issues, or chronic discomfort, I'm interested in you as a complete person.

My goal is to help your body and its systems work together harmoniously, creating opportunities for better function, mobility, and change. Think of it as helping your mechanical, respiratory, organ and neurological systems adapt to everyday life with more ease.

You're not just a shoulder joint sitting alone on an island sipping a piña colada. You're a complex system of systems, from individual cells to organs to body regions, all working together as one beautiful biological whole.

What Makes My Practice Different

My entire approach is built on the understanding that actively listening is essential. Your goals, needs, expectations, and fears all matter, they help me work with you to create meaningful change. Some of the most valuable tools I use can't be taught in textbooks: compassion, encouragement, and taking the time to truly hear your unique experience. Because it's not just a body part that's suffering; it's the whole person.

My treatment combines hands on manual therapy with education, movement strategies, and practical tools you can use at home. Sometimes that means teaching you simple techniques for managing stiffness, other times it's discovering movement patterns that feel safe and enjoyable for your body.

Committed to staying current with the latest research and manual therapy

Always Learning, Always Growing

As a member of Osteopathy Australia, I'm committed to staying current with the latest research in pain science. Our understanding of chronic pain is evolving rapidly, and I actively pursue ongoing education to ensure I'm up-to-date with current clinical practices.

I find it genuinely exciting to learn new approaches that can help people live better with persistent pain. This commitment to continuous learning means you benefit from the most current evidence-based knowledge available – both for your understanding and your care.

For Medical Professionals

I've been working in Brisbane for over 25 years and am very conscious of assisting in reducing the burden of specialist referrals and follow up management of busy GP practices. I aim to keep referring doctors fully informed with detailed progress updates and recommendations.

If you're a GP or allied health professional, you know the frustration of seeing patients who need more than a standard appointment can provide. That's where I come in. I work collaboratively with psychologists, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, acupuncturists and other allied health professionals, supporting GP practices with extended consultation times and evidence based hands on care and education.

Based in Mount Gravatt

I'm here to help you understand not just what's happening in your body, but why, and most importantly, what we can do about it together. Whether you've been referred by your GP or you've found me through your own search for someone who truly understands chronic pain, I'm here to support you on your journey towards better function and mobility.
